Course Description: This course is designed to be the student's first high school science course. Exploring Creation With Biology (2nd edition) is a college-prep biology course that provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, it provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provides a complete survey of the five kingdoms in Creation. Please note that this course does not contain a discussion of human anatomy and physiology. Most college biology professors do not consider human anatomy and physiology to be a part of a solid, college prep biology course. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a tough university biology course.
Homework: This course involves extensive lab work, so the majority of class time is spent on conducting experiments. The students will be responsible for reading all assignments from the text, completing “On Your Own” questions, lab reports and study guides from the student notebook. The tests will be administered via Google Classroom. I will keep a grade book for all of these assignments, plus additional projects and class participation.
Note: To prepare for the first class, the student must read pages iv-24 in the textbook and answer On Your Own questions 1.1-1.10 in your Student Notebook. Bring your textbook and notebook to class every week.

Course Description: Friendly Chemistry, now its fourth edition, makes Chemistry much easier to learn than most other courses on the market. A hefty book used in conjunction with a manipulative set creates hands-on learning tools for learning chemistry vocabulary as well as about structures, ions, forming compounds, formulas, reactions, equations, and more. The book includes fairly extensive explanations of these basic concepts plus some problems to be solved and an answer key. Students using this course will be exposed to most of the fundamentals typically taught in a traditional high school chemistry course.
Homework: Our class time will be spent on problem practice and hands-on activities. The students will be responsible for reading all assignments from the text, completing worksheets and tests at home. I will keep a gradebook for all of these assignments, plus additional projects and class participation.
Note: To prepare for the first class, students must read pages S1-S35 of the student edition of Friendly Chemistry and fill in the blanks with a pencil. Course Description: This class is designed to introduce the reader to excellent literature. Students will be required to purchase the literature books as the class will provide curriculum work packets and handouts for the students to download through the supply fees. Students are invited and taught to discuss and analyze the technique, styles, and definitions of literary works by famous authors. The students will learn to write literary analysis papers by learning the various aspects that make a novel a literary masterpiece or failure and encourage a christian worldview. We will look at the Bible as a literary work and as a way to defend its message and authenticity through apologetics. The class also teaches grammar and sentence structure through writing assignments. If your student is not a huge fan of reading and writing, this class will give them an opportunity to find the task satisfying and rewarding as the literary analysis is designed to promote an educated discussion of their opinion on literature through critical thinking. These skills are taught throughout the school year. If your student is a writer, this class offers them an opportunity to learn and expand their own style by dissecting the styles and works of famous American, French, and Russian authors again through critical thinking and analysis. The books are available at Halfprice, Ebay, and on Amazon used, new, and in audio format (libravox) for those who do not necessarily enjoy reading, but still need an English credit. They will be required to have the actual paper book to reference page numbers and quotes during class discussions. As a homeschool parent, I have taught the class at the various levels and grades for my children as well as for others making this class easily available to siblings and families with children in multigrade levels. The reading material, themes, and content are designed for the highschool level. If parents are interested in a history class, the world history class is taught in the same time frame as the books are written. This is to allow students to both understand history and experience the culture of that time period. The classes were designed to complement each other, but do not require participation in both. They are designed as independent classes for students who only need to focus on the single subject. I encourage bit do not require them to be taken together to enrich the over all experience of the student's education.
Grade: 9th - 12th
Time: 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Curriculum: Based on assigned books and Leland Ryken Words of Delight and Realms of Gold.
